How To Manage Your Time Wisely

“Where did all the time go?” I yelled in frustration, one day at my desk.

It was almost 2 pm and I had only ticked one task on my to-do list.

I was shocked when I realized that I had four more tasks to execute before COB and given the time left, I’ll be needing Barry Allen’s speed to finish those tasks.

Eventually, I spent an extra hour at work and also took the remaining tasks home.

Later that night, I was thinking about how I spent my day and brainstorming on how to avoid a repeat of what happened.

Then I realized that there were distractions and I didn’t manage my time well.

After pointing out the sources of distraction, I came up with a time management framework to help me hack productivity, which I’ll be sharing with you.

First, create tomorrow’s to-do list today.

When you wake up the next morning, rather than start thinking of what you’ll do for that day, you already have a timetable to run with.

Next, wake up early.

This is a no-brainer, especially when you have to commute a far distance to work.

Waking up early can also help you execute some of the tasks at home before you leave for work.

Also, maximize “waiting” hours.

The time spent on the road can be used to read a book, go over your tasks for the day, prepare a presentation, or catch up on social media happenings.

Most importantly, consciously avoid distractions.

Unless you need your phone to work, DO NOT place it beside you.

When you are stuck on your tasks, it will be the first thing on your mind.

And before you know it, you’ve spent 2 hours reading comments on gossip blogs.

If your phone is crucial to your work, freeze your social media apps.

Lastly, Use reminders.

Write your tasks on sticky notes and paste them on your desk and/or laptop.

So, whenever you have that itch to pick up your phone, your reminder will nudge you not to lose concentration.

All you have is 24 hours a day and a few hours are dedicated to work.

Much can be done if you manage your time wisely.

These tips work for me.

Kindly share tips that work for you in the comments section so others can learn.
